City TourChachapoyas was founded on September 5th, 1538 by the Spanish Alonso de Alvarado. This city is located in the east slope of the northern andes on 2334 meters on the sea level. Brief historyThe Chachapoya culture was developed in the south zone of the amazons' department. Kuelap’s archaeological remains are testimony of the demographic density and importance of this culture. Nowadays, Chachapoyas is a very safe city composed in tha main by immigrants of the andes and nearby valleys. You can visit: The main square, the well of Yanayacu, the town of Huancas, the Sonche Canyon, the Bishopric, the shrine of Virgin Asunta, the Central Market, among others.
